Camelia Oil

I got this oil to clean garden cutting tools but I've also been using it to protect a to metal scratch on my car until I can figure out how to sort that out. I think the pictures will tell the story. I used some fine mesh steel wool along with the oil to clean and lubricate blades on power tools. The combination made short work of removing sticky tree resin, cleaning the blades to a very acceptable level and maintaining good operation. Very handy to have nearby. There's 100ml so it should last a while as with all oil, only a small amount is needed. The see through container means you can see what remains easily. With regards to the car scratch; I'm applying a little via kitchen roll every few days and it's protecting the metal. Obviously not the end solution, but it's giving me time to think.Price at time of review is £14.99. I'm not sure what the price of oil is nowadays courtesy of wars, but I'm happy with the product.

I haven't heard of camellia oil before, nope it's efficacy in maintaining metal parts of tools. The major issue I have with tools, particularly those with a blade - such as secateurs, scissors, shears etc - is them going blunt rather than rusty.As a pretty new product to the UK market, where many will be unclear how to use the oil, it's very unfortunate the only instructions, or what I assume to be instructions, are all in Japanese!The oil is easy to use. It's very light and put on to a cloth which is then used to coat metal parts of a tool works effectively. The oil, if you have rusty tools, is fair value for money. For me though, with no rusty tools, its use is limited.Overall, three stars, but unless rust is a problem, this product is irrelevant.

I ordered this since we use camellia oil on our garden tools anyway and have done for a long time to keep them healthy. Kimura is a new brand to me, but feels authentically Japanese. It has a high quality bottle made from semi-rigid, squeezy plastic with a comfortable nozzle dispenser. There's a plastic stopper on the inside you remove before use which prevents any leakages. (Sounds obvious to say, but you need to put the stopper back in after use. Do not be tempted to throw it away since the bottle cap is deliberately loose and the oil runny!) You can get an oil dispenser to help apply to oil to your tools, or just use a cloth. The oil spreads well, is easy to use and from experience camellia oil has done a good job protecting metal against rust. This bottle should last some time and even though I think the price is a bit high (I would prefer the price to be closer to £8 for 100ml), it is a good product. 📝 All text is in Japanese. I have the issue that every winter my gardening tools rust. I do get them sharpened every spring but o wondered if there was a way to prevent excessive tarnishing over the winter.I got this oil in the hope that it helps to keep my shears and other hand held tools clear of rust. After sharpening them, this oil was easy to rub on. A little went a long way.It’s quite pricey for the size but promises great things, so I hope it’s worth it. I will use it over the season and hope it also works over the upcoming winter months too!

The oil is in a clear plastic bottle with a long funnel. The funnel has a linked cap and a pre-cut opening. Before use you have to unscrew the cap and remove the stopper in the bottle neck. Do NOT throw away the stopper. Retain it for resealing the bottle. This is because the oil is very runny. Knock over the bottle and without the stopper it will leak. The pre-cut hole is quite large for such a runny oil. It tends to overdose the surface or object that you are applying it to. It's more efficient and economical to apply using a cloth.The suggested uses for the oil include rugged outdoor items such as garden tools. It also includes kitchen tools. As these will be in contact with food and food preparation surfaces, I checked camelia oil online. Apparently it can be used in the kitchen, including oiling chopping boards. However this seems to depend on the purity of the oil. Hence my comment that instructions would have been useful. In the absence of instructions, I am restricting my use to non-kitchen tools. This is a wonderful lubricant that I can use in tandem with my Japanese rust eraser (see video) to keep my various garden tools in good order.It’s an odourless oil and also 100% natural, meaning it should be healthier to use around plants. Certainly it’s more pleasant that having the strong scent of GT85, my normal tool lubricant, lingering on my hands after I rub it into my tool.I’ve shown the google translate photo of the label below. The address on the product indicates this is a true Japanese product from Kyoto.I have had to knock one star off for price as you can find the camellia oil from the main Japanese tool maker in the UK for around £8, although if you have to pay postage on top this will probably come in to a similar price. However as a product, I think this is great for keeping your tools smooth and rust free.

As someone that recently got themselves a nice pair of bonsai scissors from japan that unlike ordinary scissors are not precoated with any sort of anti-rust this was a must get for me. Application is very straight forwards given you barely need any so the fact the lid is made to only allow small amounts to drop out is appreciated. I personally don't notice a smell from it but given Camellia is a type of plant I imagine it wouldn't be bad even if you were to directly sniff the bottle. I imagine that the clearness and consistency of the oil is a pretty good sign of quality.Pretty versatile too since it helps maintain all sorts of things you would have in the kitchen or garden and even some machinery although admittedly I haven't had much of a chance to test the latter. Had good success with anything I have helped maintain using this though. Pretty recommendable to have on hand in my opinion.

This Kimura 100% Pure Japanese Tsubaki Camellia Oil is good quality. Whilst this is a smaller bottle, I feel a little goes a long way. The bottle has a dispensing spout on the top which I feel is a good size and length for putting the oil onto tools. I feel this oil is best suited to good quality knives and tools, those you really want to take care of. Due to the price I don't see myself or my husband using it on tools that get thrown about easily or cheaper scissors etc. Though it does a good job of protecting them. The oil dispenses well and applied good to our kitchen knives, bush trimmer and some of my husbands tools. The nozzle and viscosity of the oil allows it to get into mechanisms to coat it well. Overall a good product, though a little expensive for anyone who generally uses general maintenance oil for tools etc

I got this as an alternative to the usual oil used for everything in the garage, door hinges and everything that squeaks.This lubricant comes in a nice clear bottle with a long spout with a very secure cap connected to the lid so it does not get lost. The securing plastic is strong and I do not feel it will break off so will always be there.I like this oil as it is much thinner so it spreads quickly and gets to all the places it needs to reach on tool blades and keeps it nice and clean. Initially this cleaned up the blades of my small hedge trimmer that had been left in a bad state and left them gliding over each other beautifully. This oil costs a bit more than a general purpose oil and seems expensive at £15 but this 100mL bottle will last ages as it requires only a little to do its job. - And it does its job perfectly.

I like this oil. It is very lightweight, spreads easily without greasiness to form a thin coating, and have no smell. It doesnt seem to form into a sticky residue either, which is fab. Apparently this tuff has been used for hundreds of years to keep japanese swords sharp and rust free and i can believe it. It is designed to protect blades that would be exposed to water or the elements in order to stop rusting so it's perfect for garden scissors and maybe for kitchen or bathroom scissors. A tiny drop or two goes a long way so this bottle could well last a long time. There is an inner cap/plug to stop the oil leaking, and an outer nozzle witha cap which is fairly good at dispensing a small amount of oil where you need it. I would definitly keep the inner cap for storage because the outer nozzle cap could come off easily. I did a google translate to see if there are any instructions on the bottle, where the writing is all japanese, but there was no useful information other than the bit that said the oil is inedible. Google also tells me that this oil (if pure) is usually food safe so could be used onkitchen knives, but as this specific bottle doesnt mention that, i am not gona use it on my kitchen knives. I think the usage is self explanatory - just rub it onto a cleaned dry blade. £14.99 for 100ml is expensive when there is no info on the bottle on whether this really is 100% pure. I have seen similar ones available for cheaper so you may wish to shop around for value.

Being a Japanese Oil expert , i did a degree at uni for 5 years to learn all about it, i can say this is the best oil i have used. Ok so maybe im not an expert... but it does seem really good. It is a small bottle for the price but again im no expert! so im not sure if this is the right price for this kind of oil. Its quite runny, ive used it on my clippers for hair as they were quite stiff and its really made a difference. The motor now doesnt sound like its straining. It is runny so you really dont need a lot. The lid is good and easy to open and use. The bottle is in Japanese and despite my mannnnny years of expert oil study i cant understand what it says, for all i know it might tell me in am idiot for buying it as its made out of mouldy snails, but i will say it does work well. Happy with this and it really will last for ages given the size and the tiny amount you need.

As it's plant-based, you don't have to worry about adding petroleum-based mineral oil to your food. The key difference is that this a natural product. Do you really want to put refined petroleum in your dinner?While it is a small bottle, a little goes a long way.
