Pro Foldable Pruning Saw

This has a very narrow handle, so the cutout for the blade to fold into is about as wide as the wood to either side of it. Mine came with the wood from one side completely snapped off. So it's clearly not very durable. I can't use it without wearing thick gardening gloves so the split handle doesn't stick into my hand. The blade does cut well and it locks in the out position so it doesn't fold up when pulling it out. It folds nicely so is very portable, but doesn't lock folded. It's very easy to use, just using the lever to unlock and fold. If it wasn't for the weak handle I'd say it was decent value for money.

This pruning saw is lightweight - my scales say it is 105g! - and feels comfortable in the hand. The blade is sharp - much sharper than it looks in fact - flexible and durable. It's excellent for cutting, but every time I try to fold it, it usually misses the slot a little bit. This is not a big deal for me, but it can get annoying if you're using the saw a lot. The blade locks securing and can be released using the catch at the side. A firm press is needed to unlock it, which gives peace of mind. I really like the long handle, which gives good control and extends the reach. The saw overall has a simple but tidy design and is made in Japan. It comes in a clear pouch (be careful here, because mine nearly fell out when I first got it!) I expect this tool to age well with use and last quite a long time if treated with respect! The price at £19.99 is excellent for the quality and I would recommend it.

Requested this Samurai 8" pruning saw, by The Kimura Store, and am relatively pleased with it so far.Comes with a simple protective plastic sheath, which is sufficient enough to store it when the blade is folded into the handle. The white oak is smooth, yet, in some places, poorly finished, with splinters, which can be sanded off, plus the length is generous, and the grip secure, comfortable, sturdy.I cannot confirm the chrome plating, nor the high carbon steel metal, although it appears strong, is slightly flexible, so caution needs taking into account when using. The teeth are super sharp, cutting through small branches with the greatest of ease. When extended, there is a simple locking mechanism, preventing slipping during use. The product needs to be fully opened, straight, with no option to adjust the angle, which is not an issue, unless you need to get in between smaller areas.Have given 4*'s as unable to vouch for the longevity of this item. I do feel it's good value for money (just under twenty pounds) and recommend it for small projects. Provided on a promotional basis, not sold to me.

Coming in a plastic bag my initial impressions were not that great if I am honest. It just looks a little basic and flimsy. Maybe it's down to the fact that you generally expect moulded grips etc. I suspect it's going to be one of those hand tools that "age nicely". Zero plastic is used to make the saw which is pretty special I think. Oak wood for the handle, brass metal work and a steel blade. The blade fold back inside the handle which is great and when extended a lock mechanism prevent the blade from folding back. It's pretty nice and my kind of hand tool. The blade is extremely sharp and cuts pretty quickly. No doubt helped by the length of the saw blade. It's described as a pruning saw and for this task it works pretty well. Probably not the tool for lopping thick branches of tress but fro general garden duties very nice. Overall a pretty easy to use saw and with a lifetime warranty could be the last saw you buy. Not often you see that sort of guarantee.

Measuring 260mm when the blade is stowed, this saw is very lightweight at around 110g. The blade unfolds to reveal a 220mm stainless steel blade around 0.7mm thick whose teeth are razor sharp and cut on alternate faces at 10 teeth per inch.The blade is thin but flexible and extremely tough - if you've ever cut green wood you'll know why a flexible blade is essential as it prevents binding and trapping. The downside is that when folding the blade away, it's easy to catch it on the sides of the handle's receiving slot.There are a couple of small knock-outs in the oak handle where the sprung blade catch pin has been hammered in place, nothing hazardous but a little unsightly and easily refinished. The handle is finished in a light gloss varnish which feels a little tacky and uneven, at odds compared to the overall aesthetic, so I'll probably sand back and finish in a hardwax oil just for personal preference.The blade catch is a simple thumb-press affair, which locks the blade in the open position and needs to be pushed in to fold the blade - once folded, the blade is held in place by spring tension from the two hinge plates.It comes with a simple plastic packaging holster with hanging eyelet, and a hole for a lanyard (but none is supplied).In use, it's very effective and comfortable to use - the long handle means it's easy to access higher branches and the razor sharp blade means little pressure is required even if you're holding it very near the back end of the handle at the extent of its reach.The cutting edge of the blade incorporates a shallow finger guard but you will want to wear gloves using this just in case you slip on a push-cut.It's a simple, well made and effective, classically Japanese garden tool with a couple of minor flaws but should give many years of effective service. Priced at £19.99 at time of review, it's also reasonable value, in addition to being light and easy to draw.Recommended.

8” Pruning Saw from Kimura.This lightweight carbon steel wooden handled pruning saw has a thin carbon steel blade with very sharp triangular teeth all along one edge.The handle is made from quite a soft wood, it’s ergonomic and a good length for hold and grip and using two hands if need be. Wright.The blade part unfolds from a slot in the handle almost like a large penknife and once in position a simple safety lock holds it in place while using so that it doesn’t fold up again.The thinness of the blade means it is quite bendy, so make sure you are holding it straight before you start sawing - this was a little difficult as the blade doesn’t quite sit straight. However, once I started sawing, I was pleasantly surprised by how quick and easy it cut through the branches.Because of the teeth shape on the saw , this is not suitable for fibrous plants like bamboo nor thick green foliage or brambles as it just tears at those ( I did try ) - but sawing through wood is just great, although I didn’t try any branches more than an inch or so thick.You need to press the top of the safety lock to release the blade to fold it back into the handle. Unfortunately, as the blade is slightly bent or twisted, it doesn’t go straight back into the slot so I had to manipulate it by manually straightening it first.This is the only thing that really lets it down because it’s great value, versatile, easy to use, lightweight and does the job which I thought it was too flimsy to do - so only one star is deducted.If you have a lot of branch pruning to do this is a budget friendly useful tool.
